LEH-LADAKH June 2010
LEH LADAKH
Leh Ladakh, Leh Ladakh, We had a dream
Its beauty, its splendour had to be seen.
A virgin land on top of the world,
Inviting, mesmerising and daunting too!
The spouses were concerned, the peaks are too high,
The oxygen too rare, the snow too cold!
But our hearts were set and our team had met
Excited as children, we packed and left.
Khardungla, Zojilla, Changla, Tanglangla,
their moods defying!
Now inviting, now disappointing,
The Weather Gods play their own game,
Keep your fingers crossed, its hide and seek.
And Lo Behold a wondrous vision unfolds
Heaven is here, touch it, feel it, soak it all in!
Two eyes, five senses fall woefully short
So vast the view, so tall the terrain!
In the lap of the Himalayas we found ourselves
In the land of the Lamas, Gompas, and yaks
Siachen, Tiger Hill and Batra Point
Our jawans guarding our Northern skies!
The forests on the hillslopes, gradually give way
And jagged peaks rise rugged and tall.
And gurgling streams of melting ice swell up
Into the mighty Sindhu, Shaiyok!
Tis God's favoured abode it seems,
Layer upon layer of neatly folded slopes
Some sandy, some stone, some gold, some brown
Nature's bounty knows no bounds!
Thru carpets of snow laced with frilly ice
The winding paths go coiling skywards
Where snowwhite peaks shimmer and shine
Sprinkled with diamonds, studded with gems!
The highest road, the coldest town
The vastness of the universe all around
Blessed we felt for just a nanosec
To be a part of this great, this incredible land!

THE BABY TURNS FIFTY
THE BABY OF THE FAMILY!!
You are the Baby of the Family!
I can still hear you raving & ranting
"I like this, I hate that!
I want this, I loathe that!"
Being the youngest has its rewards!
Always full of life and enthu
A doting father and caring husband
A Hit with your nephews and Hot with your nieces!
Be it shopping, dining or just long driving,
You are ever-ever-ready.
I am the eldest and I have some muscle too!
Adviser, Counselor, Interpreter,
Sometimes cajoling, sometimes firm,
I am the 'Chief' to all my 'Indians'
What I say, goes!
The eldest, the youngest, the 4 in between,
Plus the 6 who found us worthy to espouse,
We are One!
And we are all here to celebrate!
The family that partys together stays together!
Today you are fifty, no worry, I'm sixty!
And you're still the baby of the Family!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR & GOD BLESS!
