Independence & Co-operation
My first effort was appreciated with " Great sentiments mom!, You sound like a preacher!"
I'm none of that, just communicating with my kids! Want them to achieve more that what i managed in life, in every field. Some they have already far surpassed us both, others Im sure thay will in good time!
The greatest test of success for a parent is to see their children soar way above them!
Independence & Co-operation
These were the two values that stand out in our relationship( between parents & children) and contributed to the all round growth of both parties; the children on one hand and the parents on the other. Because we are first individuals and then either parent or child!
It is a myth that we as parents always talk bout the growth of our children- we fail to see that we are also growing , nay we must also grow in the process! Only then can the child be proud of his parents and vice versa and only when this happens can the family said to be successful- when all members blossom as individuals, the synergy is fantastic! The family rises to another level altogether- there is enough of everything-as one follows from another, is fuelled by the other!
There is Complete Understanding, (no need for exhibitionism, reiteration of emotions verbally like "I love you, I am proud of you, etc etc); Complete Confidence (If my son has done this, it must be best for us all or if dad did something, he must have good reason); Honesty, Trust, Integrity, Love, Respect, Goodness, Humility, Kindness, Sympathy, these are the roots- & dont even need mention! Without these there is no growth!
And with such growth comes health, wealth, happiness and enjoyment of life without guilt!
How does one achieve this? Its simple- you dont have to be religious or a saint or sadhu!
All you need to do is validate your thoughts against your values and your actions against your thoughts and you cant go wrong!
What is the above, but the Cause and Effect of Independence and Co-operation? We agreed that these two values were strong in our relationship-they seem to contradict each other, but are actually complementary! We gave you the independance and you co-operated with us or was it that you cooperated , hence you got the independence? I would say, it works both wys!
You do your bit and we do ours!
This does not mean that we had no problems, sure we had little skirmishes but certainly no war!
